Role Overview
The Tax Manager – Healthcare will lead tax strategy and compliance for healthcare clients, serving as a technical expert for private equity-backed healthcare entities. Core Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with privately held and private equity-backed healthcare companies, serving as a trusted primary tax advisor.
- Perform technical reviews of federal, state, and local tax returns of varying complexity.
- Provide tax modeling and consulting for mergers, acquisitions, and equity transactions.
- Review operating agreements, LOIs, purchase agreements, and other legal documents to identify tax efficiencies and mitigate risk.
- Lead onboarding and integration of large healthcare practice groups ranging from 20 to 100+ locations.
- Monitor engagement economics, including budgeting, billing, and collections.
- Recruit, develop, and motivate team members while building a pipeline of “ready-now” leaders.
- Partner with internal departments to provide comprehensive business solutions and identify growth opportunities.
- Build and leverage a professional network within the healthcare and private equity communities.
- Manage multiple complex engagements while consistently meeting client expectations.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Active CPA strongly preferred. Candidates with an EA may be considered, but CPA is the preference for this level.
- 5–7+ years of public accounting experience, with a strong focus on Partnerships (Subchapter K) and flow-through entities.
- Experience in Healthcare and/or Private Equity tax strongly preferred.
- Experience with multi-state healthcare practice groups is desirable.
- Strong technical tax review skills, including the ability to perform “cold checks” on complex tax returns and transactional documents.
- 3+ years of experience managing staff and overseeing the financial performance of a client portfolio.
- Proven ability to develop junior and mid-level professionals into “ready-now” leaders through coaching and technical training.
- Strong professional network or demonstrated ability to build relationships within the healthcare community.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; MST or MAcc preferred, but not required.

- Strong preference for candidates coming from a Top 50 tax/public accounting firm.
- Previous firm should have a headcount of 500+ employees.
- CPA is the preferred credential for the role.
- EA candidates may be considered, but candidates at the Senior Manager level must have a CPA.
- Strong public accounting and partnership tax experience is critical.
