Position: Tax Accountant
Location: Tampa, FL 33637
Duration: 3 Months
Shift Schedule: Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM
 

Job Description:
The Tax Accountant will support day-to-day tax compliance activities, with a primary focus on indirect tax compliance and additional support for direct tax activities. This role will coordinate with third-party tax advisors, prepare select tax filings, assist with tax registrations and tax notices, conduct tax research, and ensure all tax-related deliverables are accurate, timely, and well documented.

Essential Functions

Indirect Tax Compliance

  • Manage and support day-to-day indirect tax compliance activities.
  • Coordinate tax data, documentation, and payment requests with third-party tax advisors for:
    • Sales and Use Tax
    • Property Tax
    • Business Licenses
  • Prepare and file select indirect tax returns, including:
    • Federal Form 2290 – Heavy Highway Use Tax Return
    • Connecticut Highway Use Tax Return
    • Quarterly Sales and Use Tax Chargebacks
  • Assist with tax registrations and other miscellaneous compliance-related filings.
  • Review tax information for accuracy and completeness and follow up on discrepancies.

Direct Tax Support

  • Provide support for direct tax compliance activities as needed.
  • Assist with federal tax workpapers and pro forma calculations.
  • Support preparation of state tax workpapers and returns.
  • Assist with state income tax estimates and extensions.
  • Support international data collection for Forms 5471 and 8858.
  • Gather, organize, and validate tax information from internal stakeholders and supporting systems.

Tax Controversy & Research

  • Assist in resolving federal, state, and other tax notices.
  • Monitor and summarize developments in tax legislation and assess potential business impacts.
  • Perform tax research and clearly document conclusions.
  • Maintain organized supporting documentation for tax positions, filings, and research.
  • Identify and escalate potential compliance issues or discrepancies in a timely manner.

Position Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of public accounting and/or corporate tax experience preferred.
  • Experience with indirect tax compliance is preferred.
  • Experience supporting federal and state tax compliance is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to research tax matters and clearly document findings and conclusions.

Preferred Systems Experience

  • Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar ERP system
  • Corptax
  • BNA Tax Research
  • OneStream or other financial consolidation tools
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office

  • Ensure folders contain the final deliverable and all relevant supporting documentation.
  • Maintain organized tax files, workpapers, research, calculations, and supporting records.
  • Ensure documentation is complete and readily accessible for review.
