Job Title: Senior Tax Accountant

Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in maximizing business opportunities for fulfillment and growth. This role involves managing client relationships, overseeing financial reporting and compliance, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring timely, accurate, and insightful financial deliverables. The ideal candidate demonstrates intellectual curiosity, initiative in identifying growth opportunities, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
 
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management & Reporting
  • Perform full-cycle accounting from bookkeeping through year-end and tax planning.
  • Manage general ledger reconciliations, reporting accuracy, and data verification.
  • Identify and correct accounting errors made by internal and external personnel.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, balance sheets, and profit-and-loss reports.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closes, including journal entries and accruals.
  • Prepare special financial reports and variance analyses for clients.
  • Ensure all financial records comply with internal policies and statutory requirements.
2. Client Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships by understanding their financial goals.
  • Identify opportunities aligned with company objectives and discuss growth strategies with partners.
  • Provide proactive client service — anticipating needs and offering strategic insights.
  • Follow up with clients regularly to ensure satisfaction and identify new opportunities.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of clients, prospects, partners, and vendors.
3. Team Leadership & Development
  • Supervise, mentor, and train accounting team members to ensure performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct technical and quality reviews of team outputs, providing feedback and coaching.
  • Ensure workflow capacity, productivity, and quality targets are consistently met.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
4. Compliance & Process Improvement
  • Maintain compliance with current financial legislation, tax laws, and reporting standards.
  • Suggest and implement improvements for accounting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to internal control systems.
  • Participate in continuing education (webinars, workshops, networking events) to stay current.
5. Business Development & Growth
  • Participate in firm growth activities such as client meetings, brainstorming sessions, and program development.
  • Illustrate the value of firm services to create client growth opportunities.
  • Compile and analyze data to identify financial and operational trends.
  • Contribute to prospecting and business development as directed by management.

Required Skillsets & Competencies
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting: bookkeeping, tax planning, year-end closure, and restructuring.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Schedule 7
    • Dividends, GRIP, and safe income calculations
  • Expertise in tax planning, financial analysis, and investment-related accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, etc.).
  • Advanced Excel and data analytics skills.
