Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II
Duration: 3+ Months
Location: 50 Medical Park Dr E, Birmingham, AL 35235
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with rotating weekends
Shift: 4×10, 1st Shift
Required Experience: Epic Hyperspace Experience
Key Responsibilities
- Culture Plate Reading
- Microbiology Set-Ups
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
- Assist with specimen processing when required.
- Maintain a safe work environment and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field, or meet applicable local regulatory (CLIA and state) requirements.
- Minimum 2–4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
- State Medical Technologist license may be required, depending on applicable state requirements.
- ASCP or AMT certification may be preferred or required based on the position requirements.
- Prior Epic Hyperspace experience is required.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Proficient computer skills; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screening.
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.
