Job Description

Title: Medical Device Engineer 2
Location: San Diego, CA 92121
Shift Hrs: M-F 8 to 5
Duration: 5 months

Job Description:
Hands on wet lab testing in preclinical setting (large animals – pigs).
Preference for familiarity with any animal experience, but will accept clinical experience or wet lab bench testing.
Please ask the candidates if they are comfortable with large animal research and screen out any candidates that are not.
Medical device testing.
Experimental design and planning
Data analysis including statistics
MATLAB algorithm processing – no need to develop MATLAB tools, but more experience with MATLAB is preferred.
Signal processing
Communication with cross-functional research teams including R&D engineers, project managers, electrochemistry, materials science
Good communication and work ethic is important for this role.

Years of experience: 2-3 Years required
Education: Bachelors with 2-3 years, or Masters with 1 year
Required Skills (top 3 non-negotiables):
1. Coding experience – prefer MATLAB
2. Bench/wet lab experience of some type
3. Familiarity with statistics

Preferred Skills (nice to have)
1. Preclinical/animal testing
2. Signal processing
3. Significant MATLAB experience

Software Skills Required:
Some coding experience (MATLAB preferred), Microsoft office suite, statistical software is nice (JMP preferred)

Additional Information:
  • This role will focus on pre-clinical evaluations for new and current sensor platforms to drive understanding of in vivo system performance and faults. 
  • You will develop pre-clinical in vivo test methods and protocols to characterize and evaluate new prototype products.
  • You will plan and execute experiments (including DOEs) for sensor, test method, and device development.
  • You will work cross-functionally with R&D, new markets, and external partners to develop and characterize new product development efforts.
  • You will develop analysis methods and determine appropriate metrics to assess the product.
  • You will compile and analyze experimental results and communicate to the cross-functional team.
  • You will evaluate and drive development of new study designs and pre-clinical models as appropriate for projects.
  • You will develop and maintain project timelines and provide updates and feedback to project leadership.
  • You will assume and perform other duties as assigned.
  • You have the ability to run self-directed projects, manage timelines, and execute projects in an R&D environment.
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree, or preferably higher degree, in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or related field with significant experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or medical device industry
  • You bring excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to coordinate and prioritize activities to meet project objectives on time.
  • You have experience with assay development, experimental design, statistics, DOE techniques, data analysis methods and software (JMP or MATLAB preferred)
  • You are adept at data analysis methods and analysis software, with the ability to construct appropriately powered and creatively designed experiments to solve complex problems.
  • You have effective technical writing skills, including ability to write protocols, design of experiments (DOEs) and other technical reports and documents.
  • You are comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are highly organized and detail-oriented with a strong analytical and broad engineering mindset.
