Position Title: Material Handler
Work Location: South San Francisco, CA, 94080
Assignment Duration: 4+ Months
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Must Have:
Valid California driver's license required

Position Summary:

  • Works with supervisors and other leads; is required to closely interact with immediate supervisor and Materials Specialists.
  • Ensure safe and quality operations while meeting operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure daily tasks are completed accurately, including acceptance of incoming materials by ensuring paperwork is accurate and materials are received in good condition.
  • Prepare receiving documents.
  • Prepare manifests for hazardous materials.
  • Route receiving information.
  • Perform X-ray scanning of packages.
  • Process and receive radioactive materials.
  • Apply asset tags to capital equipment.
  • Observe proper handling, storage, and temperature requirements of materials.
  • Provide internal distribution, including GMP materials, to company facilities.
  • Apply proper placards.
  • Pack materials for proper shipping conditions.
  • Prepare shipping documents.
  • Perform campus pick-ups for outgoing shipments.
  • Independently follow GMP procedures and train others in all aspects of GMP procedures.
  • Clearly understand the importance of accurate GMP documentation.
  • Follow required safety procedures.
  • Use available safety equipment and participate in safety awareness and staff training.
  • Provide routine updates to supervisors on progress, status, and departmental issues.
  • Prioritize and distribute workload for the group with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in projects and deliver presentations as needed to a diverse audience.
  • Proactively identify ways to improve workflow processes and participate in planning and implementing change initiatives.
  • Lead resolution efforts and serve as a resource for resolving technical issues.
  • Actively participate in the development of departmental goals.
  • Engage in continuous feedback activities with the supervisor, including providing feedback, soliciting constructive criticism, and initiating career development discussions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse environment with respect and professionalism.
  • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Complete workload, assigned duties, and backup tasks on time.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas for cleanliness.
  • Address customer inquiries and requests.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Participate in safety and quality area surveys, 5S audits, LEAN, and Class A initiatives.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with material handling equipment and relevant computer applications.
  • Perform operations with a high degree of precision and accuracy while minimizing operational variances.
  • Assist Materials Specialists and contingent workers as necessary and fill in for staff as required.
  • Adjust to schedule changes, work overtime as necessary, and float between groups as needed to support operations.
  • Ensure all work is completed by the end of the day and utilize time wisely to maximize productivity.
  • Meet timeline commitments and communicate delays as necessary.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and inspect the work area before beginning daily work.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Material handling and/or warehousing experience required.
  • Previous leadership experience or responsibilities preferred.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong initiative with a focus on safety, quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling is helpful.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Forklift experience is a plus.
  • Fully onsite position; candidates must be able to commute daily.
  • Warehouse experience is required.
  • Morning shift; start times may vary based on business needs. Flexibility is expected.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Strong emphasis on reliability and attendance
