Job Context
The client is a market leader in regenerative medicine and in the supply of biomaterials for medical devices. The organization possesses expertise in the research, development, scale-up and supply of novel materials and medical devices. This market is growing at a double digit rate and is characterized by long term commitment. Intellectual property is of paramount importance in this high value added market arena.

The organisation's medical device expertise spans one of the broadest portfolios of medical materials, including biostable polyurethanes, ultra high molecular weight polyethylenes, resorbable polymers, ceramics, collagens, extracellular matrices, silicone hydrogels, device coatings, and drug delivery platforms. Millions of products are produced each year for applications in orthopedics, sports medicine, ophthalmology, general surgery and cardiology.

Operations context
Operations takes care of the timely and adequate supply of the finished goods of the CoE’s at the agreed quality and ensures that the delivery of these finished goods to the customers is executed in line with the sales contracts and commercial (sample) orders.
In order to qualify as a supplier in this Biomedical market, a robust and reliable supply chain planning and manufacturing process is critical. Also the sourcing of raw materials has to be managed well in order to meet the desired quality standard; relations with vendors and other external partners have to be managed well.

The manufacturing of the supplied materials can be done on Biomedical assets in-house, SLA based manufacturing services, and externally by contract manufacturers. Within manufacturing, technology transfers from laboratory to commercial scale are frequent due to the high rate of product and process innovation. The highly and variable regulated environment (pharmaceutical, in-vitro diagnostic and medical devices) in which client Biomedical globally operates means that a dedicated quality system has to be implemented to warrant both product safety and quality and yields documented evidence of product concepts that are ready to be appropriately registered. The latter implies the importance of timely and comprehensively integrate regulatory requirements into projects.
