Job Summary
Client’s Industrial Robotics Group is seeking experienced CNC Machinists/Programmers to support rapid hardware prototyping in a state-of-the-art machine shop and additive manufacturing lab. The facility includes multi-axis CNC mills, CNC lathes, waterjet cutting systems, manual machines, and industrial 3D printers. The selected candidate will be responsible for taking engineering CAD designs through programming, machining, inspection, and final production of precision prototype components.
This is a fast-paced prototyping environment where machinists work closely with engineering teams to manufacture high-quality parts with quick turnaround times.

Key Responsibilities
- CNC Programming & Machining
- Program and operate 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines and CNC lathes.
- Create machining toolpaths using CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or Siemens NX.
- Select cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and machining strategies for various materials.
- Perform machine setup, first article runs, program verification, and optimization.
- Operate manual mills, manual lathes, and waterjet equipment.
- Manage tooling inventory, fixtures, offsets, and preventive maintenance.
- Additive Manufacturing
- Operate industrial 3D printers (FDM, SLS, DLP/Resin).
- Prepare print files and optimize print orientation.
- Perform post-processing including support removal, curing, finishing, and heat treatment.
- Operate CO? laser cutting equipment.
- Recommend the best manufacturing process (CNC, additive, or sheet fabrication) based on design requirements.
- Quality & Inspection
- Inspect machined parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Perform first article inspections.
- Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements (ASME Y14.5).
- Coordinate with metrology teams for CMM and advanced inspection when required.
- Troubleshoot machining issues including chatter, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy.
- Shop Operations
- Maintain CNC machines and equipment.
- Follow 5S, safety, and EHS standards.
- Collaborate with design engineers to improve manufacturability (DFM).
- Prioritize multiple prototype projects simultaneously.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience.
- Hands-on experience with both CNC programming and machine operation.
- Experience using CAM software:
- Mastercam
- Fusion 360
- Siemens NX
- or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of G-Code and M-Code.
- Experience operating CNC mills and CNC lathes.
- Experience machining:
- Aluminum
- Steel
- Stainless Steel
- Engineering Plastics
- Experience using precision measuring tools.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree or Journeyman Certification in Machining or Manufacturing Technology.
- 7+ years of prototype or job shop machining experience.
- Experience with 5-axis CNC machining.
- Experience with DMG Mori CNC equipment.
- Siemens or Heidenhain controllers.
- Experience machining titanium and magnesium.
- Waterjet operation experience.
- Industrial 3D printing experience (FDM, SLS, Metal Powder Bed).
- Familiarity with CAD software:
- SolidWorks
- Creo
- Siemens NX
- Experience in robotics, aerospace, medical device, or defense industries.
- NIMS Certification.
- Strong communication and ability to manage multiple prototype projects.
Top 3 Required Skills
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience, including CAM programming and machine operation.
- Strong proficiency with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX, or equivalent).
- Experience machining multiple materials, including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and engineering plastics.
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Operate industrial machining equipment safely.
