Job Title: Lead, Application Development 
Job Description: Length: 12 months (mat leave)
Start date: 2 weeks
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid- 2 days on site (Anchor day is Thursday then they need to be in Mon or Tuesday)



Lead, Application Development role within our Capital Markets Technology group, specifically in the Corporate and Investment Banking, Finance, and Adjudication Technology area.
The Lead, Application Development within the Capital Markets Technology group, is an experienced technical leader with over eight years in technical architecture, solutions design, project management, and senior executive stakeholder management.
This individual possesses at least six years of hands-on experience with .NET C#, SQL, API Development, Microservices, and a strong background in containerization technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and/or OpenShift.
**The ideal candidate brings a minimum of five years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and other major cloud technologies (such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform), including cloud architecture, migration, security best practices, and cloud-native development. They demonstrate the ability to leverage cloud services for scalable, resilient, and cost-effective solutions.**
They have at least five years of people leadership experience.
Leadership and advisory experience for major functions and initiatives, with the authority and discretion for decision-making, is considered an asset. Their technical background enables them to identify and capitalize on opportunities for efficient IT development and usage, effectively guiding technical specialists.
The Director possesses highly developed analytical and conceptual skills, enabling the devising of efficient solutions to complex and diverse challenges.

      • Availability + Interview Format (Virtual, Onsite, Panel, etc.) Virtual interviews x 2 (one panel and inperson)
 

Role Overview

Support a Development Manager on solution design and architecture discussions for a large-scale platform build, with a strong focus on vendor integration, system design, and upstream/downstream architecture alignment.


Project Context

  • Vendor is delivering a multi-modular platform including:
    • Digital liquidity
    • Deposits
    • Payments
  • Work involves integration between:
    • Vendor-built modules
    • Internal clients systems
    • Upstream and downstream enterprise systems
  • Multi-year program, currently transitioning into Phase 2

Core Focus of the Role

  • Act as a solution design advisor/architectural partner (not hands-on coding-heavy)
  • Lead and support complex technical discussions with vendor and internal teams
  • Help resolve integration challenges and system interoperability issues
  • Ensure clarity on how systems communicate end-to-end
  • Bring expertise to validate and challenge vendor designs

Technical Environment

  • Technology stack already defined and in place
  • Exposure to multiple technologies (no strict limitations)
  • Working within:
    • Azure ecosystem (primary)
    • OpenShift / OCP (containerization flexibility required)
  • Responsible for understanding and improving existing architecture vs building new tech stack

Team Structure

  • ~15 developers currently on the team

Candidate Profile Requirements

  • Strong background in financial services (FI experience required)
  • Strong solution architecture / integration design experience
  • Comfortable with vendor-facing, high-pressure technical conversations
  • Ability to bridge business + technical understanding
  • Doesn't need cash management project exp but a nice to have 
  • Should be comfortable in complex enterprise integration environments

Additional Considerations

  • Must be comfortable working onsite / hybrid expectations (Thursday anchor day then has to be onsite Tues/Monday) 
  • Project is long-term and entering next phase of delivery
  • Strong emphasis on communication, design authority, and system thinking over coding
