Client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Engineering Manager to lead daily engineering and drafting operations at our precast manufacturing facility in Lake Charles, LA.
In this role, you will work closely with our Director of Engineering and Design Manager to direct project delivery, mentor a team of engineers and detailers, and interface directly with our on-site plant operations to bring innovative precast and structural solutions to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Team & Department Leadership: Manage day-to-day engineering and drafting schedules, project budgets, and technical workflows. Mentor, train, and develop staff engineers, EITs, detailers, and interns.
- Design & Technical Oversight: Oversee and execute structural, civil, and life safety design for AMC buildings, deep foundations/piles, utility trenches, duct banks, and custom precast components.
- Review & Sealed Work: Lead QA/QC design reviews, shop drawing checks, and specifications; serve as Professional of Record (POR/SPOR) on designated projects under the responsible charge of the Director of Engineering.
- Lift, Rigging & Constructability: Perform and oversee lift/handling analysis, rigging plans, and erection stability evaluations for complex precast members.
- Plant & Field Collaboration: Work directly on-site with production, quality control, field crews, and fabrication teams to resolve constructability challenges in real time.
- Standards, Automation & Outsource Management: Build design aids, calculation templates, and spreadsheets to drive efficiency; manage specialty outsourced packages (e.g., blast design).
- Project Support: Oversee submittals, RFI responses, design revisions, and coordinate submittals with the State Fire Marshal and local permitting jurisdictions.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
- Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Louisiana PE or eligible for NCEES reciprocity).
- Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of structural engineering experience, including direct exposure to precast / prestressed concrete design and prior team lead or supervisory experience.
- Technical Mastery: In-depth knowledge of PCI standards, ACI, ASCE 7, IBC, connection design, load path mechanics, and erection engineering.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with ETABS, RISA (3D/Floor), SAP2000, FEA packages, or Mathcad.
- Location & Work Authorization: Ability to work full-time on-site in Lake Charles, LA, and complete pre-employment drug screening and physical testing.
