Job Overview
We are looking for a Data Center Technician I to support data center asset and equipment management. The primary responsibility will be collecting, verifying, and entering information about Mechanical, Electrical, and Fire Safety (MEP) equipment into a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). This is a detail-oriented, hands-on data collection role. You will work onsite in data center facilities, identify equipment, scan asset tags/barcodes, verify equipment information, and accurately update records in the CMMS system.

Key Responsibilities
- Collect and enter MEP equipment information into CMMS tools.
- Visually identify Mechanical, Electrical, and Fire Safety equipment.
- Scan equipment barcode/asset tags and record asset information.
- Enter and verify:
- Site
- Room/location
- Build ID
- Application
- Asset Tag ID
- Manufacturer
- Model
- Serial Number
- Tag Plate ID
- Review equipment information for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify new manufacturers or equipment models and assign the appropriate asset category.
- Perform equipment audits in existing/legacy data centers.
- Compare physical equipment against existing CMMS records.
- Update inaccurate or missing equipment information.
- Maintain high data accuracy and documentation standards.
- Work independently while following established processes and safety procedures.
Required Skills
1. MEP Equipment Identification — Must Have
- Ability to visually identify basic Mechanical, Electrical, and Fire Safety equipment.
- Prior data center or critical-facilities experience is highly preferred.
- Experience entering and maintaining asset/equipment information.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Familiarity with asset records, equipment databases, or maintenance systems.
- Experience scanning asset tags/barcodes.
- Ability to physically verify equipment against system records.
- Comfortable performing audits and updating discrepancies.
- Prior data center or critical facilities experience.
- Intermediate Excel skills.
- Experience with data quality, duplicate checking, or exception review.
- Understanding of asset hierarchy / parent-child relationships.
- Experience with CMMS, EAM, facilities management, asset management, or inventory systems.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- 1+ year of experience in asset collection, facilities/MEP, CMMS data entry, inventory, equipment tracking, or a related area preferred.
- Entry-level candidates may be considered if they demonstrate strong equipment-identification skills, attention to detail, and aptitude for accurate data entry.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Windows and Excel knowledge required.
