Duration: 6 months with possible extensions
Role Overview:
The Boston Development Center is our rapid prototyping and low-rate production facility where we take products from early prototype through pre-production builds, accelerating development through fast iteration and hands-on validation.
We are seeking skilled Electromechanical Build Technicians to execute build campaigns for products under development. In this role, you will assemble products, performing mechanical and electrical integration, preparing assemblies for end-of-line testing, and collaborating closely with design and manufacturing engineers. This is a hands-on role for builders who take pride in craftsmanship and thrive in a fast-paced environment where designs evolve rapidly.
Key Responsibilities
Build Campaign Execution
• Execute build campaigns for subassemblies and full system integration across multiple products.
• Perform mechanical and electrical assemblies
• Complete final integration of subassemblies into full systems.
• Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, wiring schematics, and assembly work instructions to build products to design intent
• Support the varying development builds and maintain quality and throughput targets
• Track build progress against production schedule, flag parts shortages or design issues, and communicate status to production leadership
Testing & Quality
• Prepare assemblies and subassemblies for end-of-line (EoL) functional testing and performance characterization
• Prepare completed robot assemblies for system-level testing and safety validation
• Perform in-process quality inspections during assembly: verify fit, alignment, torque specifications, electrical continuity, and connector seating
• Conduct dimensional checks using hand tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, go/no-go gauges, torque wrenches)
• Document build deviations, non-conformances, and quality incidents per established procedures
• Support firmware and software integration by verifying hardware readiness and cable/connector integrity prior to software loading
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
• Collaborate directly with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers throughout the build process
• Provide design-for-assembly (DFA) feedback to engineering, identifying opportunities to simplify builds, reduce cycle time, or improve reliability
• Work with production planners and material handlers to ensure parts kitting and staging support build schedules
• Contribute to the development and refinement of assembly work instructions, process documentation, and standard operating procedures
• Maintain organized workstations, tools, and build areas following 5S principles
• Support multiple concurrent build programs as product lines evolve
• Participate in build readiness reviews and after-action reviews to capture lessons learned
Basic Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical and/or electrical assembly of prototype or low-volume
hardware products
• Experience with precision mechanical & Electrical assembly
• Familiarity with common assembly tools: torque wrenches (calibrated), crimpers, soldering irons, hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools
• Ability to work in an engineering and production environment with build rate targets and quality standards
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate degree or technical certification in electromechanical technology, mechatronics, robotics, or related field
• Proficiency reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and 3D CAD models
• 5+ years of experience in robotics, aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics prototyping/pre-production environments
• Experience assembling actuator systems: motors, gearboxes, encoders, brakes, and related drive components
• Experience assembling articulated multi-axis robotic systems or similar complex electromechanical products
• Familiarity with GD&T and basic metrology tools; CMM or 3D scanner experience a plus
• Experience working in low-rate initial production (LRIP) environments with ramp-up targets
• Track record of working collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced development environment
